The 40 Day Walk
The 40 Day Walk Program
1 Peter 2:11
[11] Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
The thought process behind this program, and the reason I came up with it, was to create a spiritual fast. Jesus physically fasted for 40 days and nights, but most people can't do something that extreme. Most fasts I've heard of are based around the concept of refraining from physical needs to focus on prayer and growth towards becoming a better Christian. This program, I'm calling it "The 40 Day Walk" is a spiritual fast from worldly things that we feed our spirits with.
Each person is different and as such "The 40 Day Walk" allows you to tailor it to what you specifically want to do.
A few of the rules are mandatory but the rest will be something you tweak to get the most out of this program.
You will get out what you put it.
The kicker of this program is if you fail to complete one of your daily tasks, you must start over. But also, you must discuss with your accountability partner (see rule #5) what you failed to do and why.
Rule #1
Pray first thing in the morning and before you go to bed for a set amount of time. Amount of time will be up to the individual. 10 minutes, 15, 30 ect. On every Sunday is a full fast for 24 hours. No food, only water. If you can't do this for medical reasons, tailor this rule to fit you personally
Rule #2
Read or listen to a certain amout of scripture a day, you set that amount.
Rule #3
Memorize a certain amount of scripture a day, which will be part of a larger whole of scripture you set for yourself to Memorize over the entirety of the 40 day walk.
Rule #4
Delete all social media off your phone and devices. This is a big one. Social media has a massive negative influence on our lives and regardless of if you are looking at life style content, most of the time we are comparing ourselves to others (pride and envy)
Watching inappropriate content (lust)
1st Corinthians 6:18
[18] Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Sexual sin won't be most of everyone's problem, but it is a very unique sin because its one of the only sin against your own body. Our body's are the temple of God and when we commit Sexual sin we defile the temple.
It is critically important to abstain from all sexual temptations. If you are unmarried, complete abstinence from ALL sexual activitie and Pornoghraphy use in all its forms.
And if you are married, only sexual contact with your spouse.
Being noisy and looking for drama (gossip)
Doomscrolling (being wasteful of the precious little time God has given us on this earth)
(Exemption)
Now there is an exception for content creators and people that make a living off social media. If you are like me, I post content and promote my art and painting, and also live stream 5 days a week, so it wouldn't be practical to eliminate all social media interactions. If you fall into this category, your Rule would be to only post and create the content sufficient enough to run your business.
I will be outsourcing all my content posting and social media interactions to my wife.
Rule #5
Find an accountability partner that knows what you are doing and will help encourage you in your Walk.
Rules 6 and 7 will need to be customized to fit your personal goals
Rule #6
This rule will need to be set by the individual because it will be different for each person.
This program is built to fast from the things we feed our spirits with that are not from God. This thing doesn't have to be a sin, but if it is all the better. Mine will be video games. I enjoy them far to much. Video games are my idol that I feel is getting in the way of me growing spiritually. So for this 40 days I will be giving up video games completely. You are the only one that knows what your thing is. If its food, go on a diet, if its tv don't watch anything for 40 days. If its being faithful to attend church, go to church whenever the doors are open ect ect.
Find that thing in your life that is an idol and give it up for 40 days.
Rule #7
Your #7 rule will be different from mine or you can do it with me.
My 7th will be abstinence challenge.
Work out all the details with your accountability partner and pick up your cross daily and walk your walk with Jesus.
Pray about the things in your life that you feel are holding you back and challenge yourself to work on those problems.
My God bless you and strengthen you.
